Kaizer Chiefs returned to winning ways in the Betway Premiership with a 2-0 victory over Sekhukhune United at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday evening.
The result secured third place for Amakhosi and qualification for the 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup. The Soweto giants will wrap up their season against AmaZulu FC and Chippa United.
Babina Noko’s top-three hopes faded as they remained fifth in the standings. The Limpopo side will finish their campaign against Richards Bay and Siwelele FC.
With Mduduzi Shabalala ruled out for the remainder of the season due to injury, Gaston Sirino returned to the Amakhosi starting line-up, and the experienced playmaker was keen to impress.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns star found space to beat Toaster Nsabata in the 38th minute, but the Zambia international produced a fine save to deny Sirino. The score remained 0-0 at halftime in Polokwane.
Seven minutes into the second half, Sirino had a glorious chance to open the scoring, but the unmarked Uruguayan somehow scuffed his shot from inside the box, allowing Nsabata to gather the tame effort with ease.
The Soweto giants upped the tempo late on, with substitute Tashreeq Morris turning home Glody Lilepo’s cross in the 86th minute. Another substitute Mfundo Vilakazi then slotted a penalty in stoppage time after the eventual Man of the Match, Lilepo, was fouled, sealing a 2-0 win.
