New Magesi coach Allan Freese was delighted to take an away point off Stellenbosch in their Betway Premiership clash on Wednesday and says his mission now to is to try and ensure survival for the bottom-placed club.
Magesi ended a run of three successive league defeats with the 1-1 draw at the Danie Craven Stadium but remain at the foot of the standings with 12 points from 127 games, three points from safety.
“I am happy with the point, especially given the little time that I had to prepare the team. So it wasn't easy,” said the 69-year-old coach, appointed last week to take over from John Maduka.
“But having said that I'm happy with the point, there were things that we could have done better. But coming here, and Stellenbosch has always been a good team with a good coach, I'm very happy about that given I had three, four days to prepare the team.”
Freese said he was aware of the tough task that lays ahead for him.
“Okay, the team is dead last but I’ve come into this thing with my eyes wide open. So how do I improve? With hard work. That's the only thing that can help here at this place in time. I have to get the players to understand how I want them to play as part of all that. So, yeah, first game, first point.”
