The CSA T20 Challenge match between the Dafabet Warriors and the Hollywoodbets Dolphins at ST George’s Park was suspended after lightning was noticed in the vicinity of the stadium. The Dolphins were on 64 without loss after 5.3 overs when the teams left the field.
The toss went Matthew de Villiers’ way and the Warriors captain elected to bowl first. De Villiers was hoping to capitalise on the slow wicket and overcast conditions. However, things didn't go as the hosts had hoped.
Khaya Zondo and Bryce Parsons saw off a watchful first two overs before they pressed the accelerator. De Villiers tried to buy an early wicket by taking advantage of Khaya Zondo's weakness against off-spin by bringing on JP King in the powerplay. The experienced Dolphins opener refused to retreat into his shell and went after the spinner instead. He bashed 19 runs in five deliveries off King in the third over to give the visitors momentum.
At the break, Zondo contributed 28 runs from 12 balls, while his partner, Parsons, was unbeaten on 35 from 21 deliveries. The Dolphins had used four bowlers: JP King, Kerwin Mungroo, CJ King, and Aphiwe Mnyanda. None had been able to get the home side a breakthrough.
