Abdullah Shafique became the first Pakistan batter since 1977 to score more than 150 in a test in the West Indies as the Asian side took control of the second ICC World Test Championshipcontest in Trinidad with a dominant display on Tuesday.
Shafique scored an unbeaten 160* to help power Pakistan to 387 and an overall lead of 43 runs on the first innings, before Sajid Khan put the West Indies on the backfoot as he claimed four wickets to reduce the hosts to 103-6 at stumps on the third day.
It was Shafique that stole the show earlier in the day as he continued to score freely at the Queen's Park Oval venue and became just the fifth Pakistan batter to surpass 150 in tests in the Caribbean and the first to do so since Majid Khan scored 167 in Guyana in 1977.
It was only Jomel Warrican (6-112) that kept the West Indies in the hunt, with Shafique looking at ease as he hit 15 fours and three sixes during his knock as Pakistan attempt to claim the second test and level the two-match series after a 90-run defeat in the opening fixture.
