Player registration for the Betway SA20 Season 5 Auction is open, giving players in South Africa and around the world the opportunity to register their interest in the 7 October event. Registrations will open at 10h00 today and close at 17h00 (SAST) on Monday, 14 September 2026.
With all six franchises having finalised their retained and pre-signed squads, 19 slots remain to be filled at the Auction, opening the door for rising and established players to break into Season 5.
Joburg Super Kings and MI Cape Town head into the Auction with the most to do, each needing to fill six slots, including one Under-23 player apiece. Pretoria Capitals have five slots open, while Sunrisers Eastern Cape have two remaining. Durban's Super Giants and Paarl Royals head into the Auction with their squads already complete.
There is also spending power still to be unlocked at the table. Joburg Super Kings lead the way with R20.6 million remaining in their salary cap, followed by MI Cape Town on R9.35 million. Sunrisers Eastern Cape have R3.6 million left to spend while Pretoria Capitals have R1.475 million.
The retained and pre-signed squads already boast exciting star power, with the likes of internationals Mitchell Marsh, Joe Root, Sam Curran, Nicholas Pooran, Jason Holder and Phil Salt confirmed for Season 5 alongside Proteas big names Kagiso Rabada, Aiden Markram, Dewald Brevis, Tristan Stubbs, Lungi Ngidi and David Miller.

Season 5 of Betway SA20 gets underway on Sunday, 17 January at St George's Park, culminating with the Final at Newlands on Sunday, 21 February.
