Long-distance runner Tayla Kavanagh shattered her second national record within a couple of weeks, breaking new ground in Romania on Sunday.
Kavanagh finished fifth overall in the women's 10km race at the Brasov Running Festival, completing the event in 30:50. She sliced 22 seconds off the South African 10km mark of 31:12 set by Glenrose Xaba in Durban in July 2024.
In the process, the 25-year-old athlete chopped 36 seconds off her previous personal best of 31:26. In superb form, Kavanagh had also set a national 5km record last month when she took fourth position in 14:51 at the World Athletics Road Running Championships in Copenhagen.
