Africa's track and field stars once again lit up the Brussels Diamond League Final on Friday night, delivering a series of world-class performances on one of athletics' biggest stages.
From Botswana's Busang Collen Kebinatshipi producing a record-breaking 400m masterclass to Kenya's Emmanuel Wanyonyi stamping his authority on the men's 800m, African athletes were at the forefront of the action in Belgium.
There were also podium finishes for Cameroon, Nigeria and Algeria, while South African athletes remained competitive across the sprint events, ensuring the continent's presence was felt throughout an electrifying opening night of the season-ending showpiece.
KEBINATSHIPI (BOTSWANA) SHINES IN THE 400M
Kebinatshipi produced one of the performances of the night, winning the men's 400m in a national record 43.40 seconds. His victory earned him the Diamond Trophy and set a new Diamond League record and meet record.
WANYONYI DOMINATES THE 800M
Kenya's Emmanuel Wanyonyi continued his outstanding season, winning the men's 800m in 1:41.80, a new meeting record.
THIRD TITLE FOR CHEROTICH
There was a second Kenyan meeting record, this time by Faith Cherotich, who won her third Diamond League title in a row in 8:51.61 in the 3 000m steeplechase.
ESEME CLAIMS SPRINT PODIUM
Cameroon's Emmanuel Eseme finished second in the men's 100m with an impressive 9.93 seconds, only behind Jamaica's Oblique Seville.
AJAYI CONTINUES NIGERIA'S SPRINT SURGE
Nigeria's Kayinsola Ajayi secured third place in the men's 100m in 9.97 seconds, joining Eseme on the podium.
STRONG SOUTH AFRICAN SHOWING IN THE 100M
South Africa placed two athletes in the top seven:
Gift Leotlela finished 5th in 10.01
Akani Simbine finished 7th in 10.03
NENE COMPETITIVE IN ELITE 400M FIELD
South Africa's Zakithi Nene placed sixth in the men's 400m with 44.44 seconds in a race won by Botswana's Kebinatshipi.
SEDJATI GRABS 800M SILVER
Algeria's Djamel Sedjati finished second in the men's 800m in 1:42.71, behind Wanyonyi. Fellow Algerian Slimane Moula also made the final.
KOECH LEADS KENYAN CHARGE IN 1500M
Kenya's Phanuel Koech finished runner-up in the men's 1500m in 3:30.18, narrowly missing victory. Veteran Timothy Cheruiyot placed 12th.
