Adola's time was the 11th-best time in history but off world-record pace and outside the course record of 2:01:09, set in 2022 by five-time Berlin winner Eliud Kipchoge.
As Adola crossed the finish line, countrywoman Tigst Assefa was on track to break the women's world record, with just over five kilometres remaining.
