German swimmer Johannes Liebmann broke the 1 500m freestyle world record by nearly four seconds at the European championships in Paris on Saturday.
The 19-year-old clocked a time of 14 minutes 26.79 seconds, 3.88sec faster than the previous record set by American Bobby Finke at the 2024 Olympics. Hungary's Zalan Sarkany and German Oliver Klemet rounded off the podium, over 12sec adrift of Liebmann.
