Chaz Davies says he is looking forward to this week's WSBK Imola round as he considers it to be 'the best race of the year'.

The previous round at Assen was a frustrating one for Davies. A clash with Jonathan Rea in qualifying left the Welsh rider fuming, enough to write a long Facebook post about the incident afterwards.

But Davies heads to Imola knowing that last year he completed a clean sweep by setting a new outright lap record, fastest race lap, Superpole and a double race victory.

He will be hoping for a similar performance in order to close the 84-point gap on championship leader Rea.

“To me, Imola is the best race of the year,” Davies said. “It's got the atmosphere, the history, and when things go well, like it happened last year, it's the best place to win and celebrate in front of all the ducatisti.

“Assen was a mixed bag for us, the results weren't what we were looking for but we did all we could and we gave our 100 percent on track, so I'm confident we can turn things around with a little better fortune.

“I also really enjoy the track, it's quite technical and I think it suits my style, but it's also tricky with many elevation changes, so it's never easy to find the perfect setup for the bike. The area between the Piratella and Acque Minerali corners is really tough, but if you get it right it's so rewarding.”
