Zanaco have moved up to second place on the MTN FAZ Super League standings after winning 2-0 away to Nchanga Rangers in a week six fixture played at Nchanga Stadium on Wednesday.

Adamson Mulao scored a brace to help the defending champions move to 13 points, one adrift of leaders Lumwana Radiants and two clear of Zesco United who dropped to third.

The Bankers could have won by more but Saith Sakala missed a penalty and Kennedy Musonda saw his effort cleared on the goalline before he hit the upright with another.

After a first half in which the visitors dominated with four attempts on target to the hosts' one, it was Mulao who opened the scoring when he headed home from a corner in the 51st minute. The corner was given after Jimmy Nakena reacted quickest to clear on the line from a close range effort by Kennedy Musonda.

Mulao pounced again in the 86th minute when he bundled in from a cross by Taonga Bwembya, the ball deflecting into the net off his abdomen.

And two minutes later Sakala won a penalty which he himself stepped up to take but he was denied by Pascal Kasonde who went the right way to turn the ball behind for a corner.

Zanaco assistant coach Dabid Chilufya said the win would help reduce the pressure on his players ahead of Saturday's home fixture with Nkana.

"We played this match two days after arriving from Egypt and three days before our match with Nkana. It was tough for us but we are happy to come away with a win and close the gap on Lumwana. Our target was to win so that we move closer to Lumwana," said Chilufya.

Zanaco's next two league fixtures are against Nkana and Zesco United, with the latter expected to be postponed to a later date as it clashes with their Caf champions league fixture with Wydad Casablanca.

Meanwhile, Nchanga Rangers stayed in 17th position with five points ahead of their visit to leaders Lumwana Radiants.
