Nigeria winger Samuel Kalu was on target for KAA Gent in their 5-2 win over Zule-Waregem in their Pro League playoff on Thursday.

The result meant Gent are now third on the log with 41 points, eight behind Anderlecht who are champions-elect.

Gent started the game with the Nigerian duo of Samuel Kalu and combative midfielder Anderson Esiti while Zulte had Nigerian striker Aliko Bala on the bench.

Mali striker Kalifa Coulibaly set Gent on their way with a smart finish in the 21st minute before Kenneth Saief made it 2-0.

Samuel Kalu got in on the act with another goal for Gent in the 59th minute as the ‘Buffaloes’ went on a riot against Zulte-Waregem's defence.

Coulibaly had his brace two minutes later for a 4-0 lead before Zulte captain Mbaye Leye scored a consolatory goal for the visitors.

Japanese striker Yaya Kubo scored the fifth goal for Gent before Henrik Dalsgaard clawed another goal back for Zulte to end the game at 5-2.

Esiti picked up a caution in the game while Kalu’s goal was his second of the season.
