Peter Butler will take charge of his first game for Platinum Stars on Saturday when they take on Mbabane Swallows in the African Confederation Cup.

Butler has taken over from Cavin Johnson as coach for the coming season after signing a one year contract with an option for a further year’s extension.

Johnson left in mid June with Willem Jackson talking over for two matches in the African competition

But Jackson was let go by the club earlier this week, along with likes of Ndumiso Mabena and Solomon Mathe at the end of their contract.

Butler began his new job on Tuesday, moving from Gaborone where he had been coach of the Botswana national team for the last three years.

The 50-year-old playing career includes stints at West Ham and West Bromwich Albion and he has coached in England, Australia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Burma, Singapore and Thailand.
